This course will look at the various types of control equipment present on the system and describe the general operating characteristics of these control systems. Students will learn how the excitation system works to control power system voltages and explore the role of the automatic generation control system (AGC) in system performance.

The course will also discuss the controls the operator can use to help a system return to a steady state approaching normal conditions and the different types of protective relays and how and when they operate.
